Rotorua heartland of New Zealand’s Maori culture.  Surrounded by steaming lakes, bubbling hot pools and bursting geysers, Rotorua is host to some of the worlds most incredible earth forces, capturing all that is precious and unique – feel its spirit ~ Mannakitanga.

This evening you will be met at your accommodation by coach and transferred to the Tamaki Tours transferred to a Marae to enjoy a Maori Hangi (feast).

 

A very sacred performance takes place upon arrival at the Marae known as the Wero (challenge). Followed by the Karanga (call), speeches and Hongi (greeting). The Marae is a Turangawaewae (standing ground) and is where the Maori best express themselves.

Let the local tribes-people walk you through time to learn of the pride of the Maori – their story - through song and dance. Become a part of their living history through the eyes of the Rangatahi (young), from the heart of the Kaumatua (old).

 

See, learn and taste food being prepared and cooked the ancient way as the night unfolds to a relaxed, informal, friendly and fun atmosphere of feasting and entertainment. All meats and vegetables are cooked in the traditional fashion, beneath the ground on hot rocks.

 

Return to your accommodation by coach later this evening.

                                    Early this afternoon you will be transferred to Rotorua Airport.
