GRASMERE LODGE Arthurs Pass An all-inclusive high country lodge

Built in 1858, the original limestone homestead, now the core of the lodge, introduces you to the style of personal pampering that earned the Harper’s Hideaway Report Grand Award in 1998.  At the same time this traditional New Zealand high country station (ranch), set amid towering 7000 ft peaks, provides a wide range of outdoor activities for those seeking a more adventurous interlude or to simply soak in the beautiful scenery.  Grasmere Lodge also offers a richness of traditional New Zealand hospitality.

Farm Tour: During your stay a complimentary tour by 4 wheel drive vehicle is offered on the sheep station. This is a wonderful excursion and teaches you a lot about sheep farming in New Zealand.

Location: Located in the beautiful Arthur's Pass area of the South Island.  You can reach the lodge on the Tranz Alpine Railroad that runs between Christchurch and Greymouth or by car from Christchurch about a 90 minute scenic drive.

Accommodations: Every guest room at Grasmere Lodge has a king bed or two single beds, two armchairs and a coffee table, CD player, mini-bar, a work desk with a modem plug and chair. Each private patio or deck has two outdoor chairs for enjoying the views and fresh mountain air. A selection of teas, freshly ground coffee, home-baked cookies and sherry is also provided in each room. The tiled bathrooms feature a jacuzzi bath, separate glass shower, double vanities, thick bathrobes, hairdryer, and nightlight. Each room has original artworks inspired by the landscape outside, and is decorated in the rich colors of the tussock-covered hills. These are delightful and spacious rooms and the larger suites are particularly luxurious and spacious.

Dining and Public Rooms: The tariff includes a five-course gourmet dinner, there are no other restaurants around the lodge. They offer what’s known as a table d’hôte menu – with the menu set by the chef, and changed daily.  Five courses sounds daunting, but the portions are smaller than normally served in a hotel restaurant, so that you don’t feel over-fed. This format means they can serve a wider range of flavors and cuisine styles in one meal, while keeping it balanced and healthy. Because there are no choices offered, let the lodge know if there is anything you can’t eat or don’t like. With advance notice, the chefs can design the menu around any diet restrictions. The meal might be elegant but they want you to relax. The dress code is smart casual – gentlemen, you don’t need a jacket and tie. Pre dinner drinks and delicious appetizers are served in the beautiful lodge.  Breakfast in the morning offers a full buffet of fruits, cereals, scrumptious muffins and juices, along with a full cooked to order breakfast is also offered.
