Te Anau  - South Island Between Queenstown and  Milford A beautiful lake with float planes for scenic flights and Glow Worm Caves Jump off place for the famous "Milford Track"

Most people drive to Te Anau from Queenstown. This is a lovely drive starting off following a river and then passing through prime sheep country. It takes about 3 hours. Most trips to Milford just drive through Te Anau without stopping. 
 

Te Anau is a sleepy little town on Lake Te Anau. From the lakefront ">the lakefront you can see the small sea planes taking off and the deep blue lake.  This is also the jumping off spot for the famous walk “The Milford Trail”. This is a four day 33 mile hike from Te Anau through to Milford. Those that do this walk all love it. They have huts along the way and they cook hot meals every night and there are guides with you along the path. You must carry you You must carry your own pack and there are ladies dormitories and men’s dormitories.  This goes over a high pass, the Harris Saddle and then you walk by Sutherland Falls, an incredible waterfall.  They can actually have you walk behind the waterfall.

These caves are just what you would expect.  The ride over in the boat is nice and then you transfer into the caves and see all the glow worms. Nice to do if you have the time but certainly something not worth staying over to see.
